August 15th 2019, was a day of joy and gladness for PMI – Vijayawada unit as Independence Day was celebrated with brothers and sisters behind the bars at District Jail, Vijayawada under the guidance and leadership of Rev. Fr. Pasala Thomas, Director, SSC & PMI Vijayawada Diocese.
The program commenced at 11.30 am with the words of welcome and singing the National Song “VandeMataram” & Prayer Dance by the candidates from the Sistersof Nirmala Convent, Patamata. Sr. Anna Mary of St. Anthony’s Convent, Vijayawada read the Bible reading.Intercessory Prayers were conducted by Smt. D Philomena and Smt. Prasanna. They prayed for PMI Unit members and all the prisoners &their families, for the prison authorities and for leaders and nation.Mr. Ashok Kumar, National Executive Member of the PMI has addressed the gathering and said that nowadays the society has a positive outlook towards those behind the bars and all of us must invite more people to build a peaceful society.
Well-choreographed patriotic dances were performed by novices of St Ann’s Bhavan, Surampalli under the guidance of Sr. Suguna; Nursing Students of St.Ann’s Hospital, Vijayawada under the direction of Sr.Martha, Executive Committee Member of AP State PMI Unit& Children of St. Anthony Convent under the guidance of Sr. Anna Mary.Fr. Pasala Thomas, Director of SSC, in his inspiring message said that on this Independence Day we must remember the sacrifices done by all the freedom fighters because of which today we are enjoying a life of freedom. And using this freedom forthe wellbeing and benefit of the society and the nation should be our best thanksgiving to the freedom fighters. He further conveyed on how to live happily, by adopting a positive approach. A devotional song was sung by the students of Nirmala Convent. Sr. Sujana of St. Aloysius Convent, Gunadala and Executive Committee Member of AP State PMI Unit proposed the vote of thanks. Snacks and fruits were distributed to the inmates and to the jail staff. Sr.Constantina, Executive Committee Member of AP State PMI Unit coordinated the program along with Mr. Bandi Babu Rao.
