The day of 26th of November 2018 was a significant one for the Benedictine monks of the monastery of St. Benedict, K. Tadepally, not only because it celebrated the feast day of their founder St. Sylvester but also because it witnessed to the divine liturgy of the Priestly Ordination of their
two young monks at the hands of their Bishop Most Rev. ThelagathotiJoseph Raja Rao SMM, Bishop of Vijayawada.
The day’s liturgy began with a solemn procession to the monastic chapel of the deacons accompanied by their parents, the concelebrating priests and the ordaining Bishop. The entrance dance performed by the Dorothean candidates and the melodious singing of the choir guided by Mr. Praveen added beauty and splendour to the procession which was concluded with the rite of thum-arathi to the Bishop. After the initial rites at the altar by the
Bishop, the Prior welcomed the invited guests for their gracious presence at this august moment. An inspirational homily with instructions to the Deacons of their duties as priests and of the dignity of priesthood concluded the liturgy of the word. Fr. Rex, S.J. summarized this message
in Tamil as one of the ordinandi is of Tamil origin and had his parents and relatives present for the function. Then followed the Ordination ceremonies which came to an end with the dignity of the new priests being recognized with the kiss of their anointed hands and welcomed into the priestly family with the fraternal embrace by the ordaining Bishop and the concelebrating priests.
