In the beginning, it was started as a small health centre. It was blessed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Thumma, the then bishop of Vijayawada. It was started on 9th March 1987. It was the desire of the Bishop Joseph Thumma that the Sisters of Destitute should start a Rural Health Centre at the service of the poor people. It was Rev. Sr. Maria Teresa, who managed the centre with the support of a doctor visiting once a week. Later, the foundation of the Arogyamatha Hospital had been laid on 8th February, 1988 by Rt. Rev. Joseph Thumma. The present Arogyamatha Hospital was Re-Opened on 14th March, 1995 by the Bishop. Today, it is very successful in curing and caring the sick.

4. SACRED HEART HOSPITAL, GUDIVADA (1948)

Sacred Heart Convent was opened on 28-9-1948 with six Italian sisters. Since there were no medical facilities and many of the ladies were dying during the child birth, they decided to start the dispensary. The dispensary was started in a thatched shed on 2-10-1948 with an Italian doctor, Dr.Miss. Scoletta as the Medical Officer. It was named: Sacred Heart Hospital. Bishop Dominic Grassi financed the building to accommodate 20 patients. In 1969, another block was constructed to accommodate patients with Operation Theatre and Labour room. Later on Scanning machine, X-Ray and all the other facilities were added.

6. ST. ANN’S HOSPITAL, AVANIGADDA (1970)

Mission in Avanigadda was started at the request of PIME missionary priest at Avanigadda for medical aid for the needy around who were devoid of any medical assistance. Also the intervention of Sr. Hedving already was rendering family care service to the Rani’s palace at Challapalli. The incident of death of a young missionary priest for the lack of first aid in emergency at Avanigadda hastened the arrival of Sister. St. Ann’s Hospital, Avanigadda was started in the year 1970 with 30 beds. Sisters of St. Ann are rendering number of services in the health care of the poor and downtrodden of Avanigadda and surrounding villages. Most of the people are agricultural and casual labourers who depend on rain for cultivation. 70% of the people live in poverty and misery. Sr. Alexia, Sr. Annie and Sr. Christina are the pioneers of this hospital.

7. ST. ANN’S HEALTH CENTRE, AJITSINGNAGAR (1962)

In the year 1962 at the request of the municipal Health authorities, we stared the rural Health works in this village Ajitsingnagar, as intensive preventive and curative health progarmme, with the cooperation and collaboration of Vijayawada municipality and the head quarters ST. Ann’s Hospital Vijayawada. In the same year the municipality requested us to start a dispensary to meet the medical needs of the people here and donated 2 acres of land as a gift deed. Mother Elizabeth, the superintendent of St. Ann’s constructed a small dispensary. In the year 1975 Mother General Sr. Esther Stabli laid the foundation stone for the Health Centre, which was completed and inaugurated the following year. A Maternity block was constructed n 1981. Today it is a small health Centre having some 20 beds and a residential doctor.

St. Ann’s Maternity Hospital is a fifty bedded hospital with all the needed facilities including a well-equipped Labor Room, Operation theatre, Ultra Sonography and Biochemistry Lab, where 5 sisters along with a few staff and 2 doctors render service to the poor of the area. Today the hospital is uplifted by the powerful hands of the divine healer and the hard efforts of our committed Doctors, Surgeon, Anesthetist, our Sisters and Staff.

9. ST. ANN’S HOSPITAL, KONDAPALLI (1961)

St. Ann’s Hospital, Kondapalli was established in the year 1961 by Most. Rev. Bishop Baptista in order to serve the poor and lower middle class people of this locality. Besides this health center these sisters have started a free mobile clinic in a poor village. They have started Meyer’s unit in their hospital. They give free treatment for those who get admitted in this unit. Every first Thursday evening free treatment is given freely for the poor people. They adopted 5 families for health care and give free treatment for all the family members.

10. ST. JOSEPH’S HOSPITAL, NAWABUPETA (1941)

In the year 1940 St. Joseph’s dispensary was started by Fr. Dr. Deodatus Desenzani (Italian) to provide medical services to the people of this village. We, Catechist sisters of St. Ann worked under his guidance and later on, owned it and extended our services to the surrounding villages also. In 1976, we upgraded it to St. Joseph’s Hospital with the provision of rooms for in-patients, Laboratory, Operation Theatre and labour room.

11. ST. ANN’S HOSPITAL, VIJAYAWADA (1940)

St. Ann’s Hospital, Vijayawada was started in the year 1940 by Mother Elizabeth Affentranger and her team of sisters at the repeated request of people and civil authorities of Vijayawada. It is situated in the heart of Vijayawada city. The then Government of Madras donated the land. In 1944 Mother Elizabeth started Midwifery course for young girls in Telugu. In 1946 Training for lower grade Midwives was started. In 1950 advanced grade of midwifery was started in English. In 1954 General Nursing training was started and recognized by the Madras Government. St. Ann’s Hospital is catering to the health needs of thousands of patients in and around Krishna District. A 30 bedded hospital when it was started and now it is a 350 bedded hospital with medical, surgical, pediatrics, gynecology, trauma unit and well equipped operation theaters, ICU, C arm etc. The spacious OPD is a great boon to the hospital; it provides all the facilities under one roof. There is 24 hours service at casuality, pharmacy, Laboratory, X-Ray, ECG, Ultrasound scan, colour Doppler etc. St. Ann’s Society, right from its inception has focused on training personnel both in Switzerland and in India. Central Province has the privilege of having the first Nursing school of the Society in India, in its territory. This is the largest community in Central province consisting of 53 sisters of different age groups.

12. ST. Joseph’S HOSPITAL, Nayagalanaka (1940)

The dispensary was started on 20th August 1986 in a simple way in the old cinema theater in one of the portion. Then the dispensary was renovated and modified during the year 1991. Again during the year 2001 two rooms were modified as a operation theater. Doctors were coming from out to do the surgeries. On 5th February 2009 one of our own Sr. Dr. Regina MBBS, M.S. (DGO) joined us. Now we have 10 beds hospital with a residential Doctor (Sister) Two Staff nurses (Sisters) three nursing aides and one fourth class worker. In patients and out patients are treated here with much love and quality care is given. We attend to antenatal mothers, conduct deliveries and also surgeries. The Superior is the administrator and the Dr. Sister is in charge of the hospital.
